The cynic believes that gratitude is merely a secret hope for greater favors! If we are nice to people, they will be nice to us.
But real gratitude has nothing to do with playing up to people.
It has everything to do with loving God and loving our neighbor — a spontaneous gesture of the heart in response to undeserved good fortune.
Our sincerest gratitude is expressed
when we become a blessing for someone else.
That is how the Kingdom of God will come to be; that is how is will always be in the Kingdom of God.
